Choosing The Topic For Your Blog

When you have an online marketing blog you need to decide the topic or set of topics that you will be posting so you can focus your blog in a specific direction.

There are hundreds of different topics to choose from. Not only are there general ones; there are also a good number of sub and even specialized niche. Deciding on which one to go with, can mean all the difference between a lot of people going to your blog resulting to success or none which results in a failure.

·    What topic has everyone going gaga over? Popular topics are always a good topic to go into since you know that a lot of people are reading them.

If you have a lot of people interested in that topic, it only means that they can’t get enough of it. If you choose that topic then you are already assured that you will have readers and that people will come to your blog in order to read what you have posted.

That said, it doesn’t mean that you can just churn out low quality posts. Your posts still have to be good enough to give value to your readers.

Remember, you’re not the only one posting about the same topic. You and every other Tom, Dick, and Harry (not to mention Jane) is doing the same thing. If all you have are merely the same rehash of what everyone else is doing you won’t last that long.

·    That’s why you need to look at what those other guys are doing. What’s your competition like? How are they approaching the topic? What’s their style?

Knowing about your competition is very important. It’s important so that your online marketing blog can be more competitive with them.

By knowing what they’re doing you can focus on what they’re not doing. Focusing on that will get you closer to those readers who have been alienated because of that neglect. At the same time it gives your posts a different spin which can attract the attention of other readers already hooked on that topic.

·    What’s the topic’s health like? By this, I mean will you be able to get a lot of content to make your post of good quality. Even if it is a popular topic but there’s only so much content you can write about it then you’re not going to be able to really leverage it much.

This is especially true if you enter late in the game. If you do so then you’re going to find out that a lot of content has already been covered so you may wind up simply emulating what others have already written.

That’s why you also need to know if this topic will be there for a long time or simply a flash in the pan. You don’t want to focus your online marketing blog on one topic only to find out that next month it won’t be relevant anymore.

You want a topic to focus on that’s popular but also has the longevity you need to make your blog successful.

The secret to ranking your blog is..

Ans. SEO of course. That’s search engine optimization for those who prefer it to be spelled out for them. It’s basically getting your marketing online blog and making it friendly to search engines

What does it mean?

It means that the way you do your blog makes search engines happy. This in turn gives your blog a higher ranking when it comes to search results. This means that if someone searches for a term that’s related to what your blog is all about the chances that they will find your blog in the search results will be pretty high.

That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. That said it’s not like it’s easy or instantaneous. If it were everyone would be doing it. If that is the case then even if you did it, it wouldn’t matter since everyone will be doing the same thing.

SEO takes hard work and dedication. There’s no two ways about it. If you don’t stick with it you won’t be able to succeed in it. The results won’t be felt until much later so you need to have faith so you can see it through to the end.

·   What words will people use to search for you? Put yourself in the shoes of the people who you want to come to your blog. If they’re searching for what your blog has to offer what search terms will they put in the search bar?

Make a list of this and see how often it gets used search-wise. These words will the ones that you will put into everything that you post on your marketing online blog.

Once the search engine indexes your site it will know that if someone does a search using those words your blog will apply to it.

·     Make sure you have great content. Since we’re talking about content earlier let me just say this: you content had better be the best content out there.

Why?

That’s because nowadays only good quality counts. This means that if you have crappy content then you can kiss being found by the search engines goodbye.

This is all part of the movement on the part of search engines, especially Google, to get rid of spam content and offer more quality instead. This means your content has to offer value to the readers in terms of information. It should help them find the answers to whatever it is that made them go online in the first place.

·    Links are also nice. You need to put links into your blogs as well. Create links coming from other blogs or locations. You also want to create links that connect to other blogs from your own blog. You should also have internal links that link one page of your blog to another.

Search engines love links – as long as they’re of good quality and related to your blog. This means don’t link just for the sake of linking. If you want a link back to your marketing online blog make sure it’s from a related site else the search engines will just consider it a spam link and disregard it.

There’s more to blogging than you might think. Get to know more about it by visiting this site today.

What Is Marketing Online?

Online marketing is just that – marketing online. This means that whether you’re offering your services or have a product to sell or a brand to promote you do all this online.

It makes sense to do this because at any given moment millions of people are using the internet. If you think about it, that’s millions of potential customers that you can connect to for the benefit of your business or yourself.

That said, the term online marketing is just too broad. It encompasses marketing as it relates to the internet but that’s just a generalization. Online marketing is actually composed of different marketing plans or strategies that you can use in order to market whatever it is you want to market.

·         Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – You’ve probably heard of SEO. Basically it’s a way to market yourself and boost traffic that’s coming from the search engines such as Google and Yahoo.

In this kind of marketing you focus on keywords or search terms that people use when searching for something on the internet. Depending on the search algorithms of the respective search engines you can utilize different techniques to get recognized by the search engines so you can be indexed in their search results page.

·         Social Media – We are at the age of social media. You ask people around you and there’s a good chance they have either have a Facebook or Twitter account. Many will probably have both and more.

In one way or another we are all connected with social media. That’s why it has become the focus of those who do marketing online.

That’s because where social media sites are people are. Where people are means a lot of potential connections or customers. Businesses would be stupid not to go where the people are and market themselves there.

·         Email – Everyone has this. It’s fast; it’s quick; and it’s very easy and direct. It’s also very cost efficient since you can get a free email account from Google or Yahoo.

This type of marketing uses emails as a way of getting their messages across – whether it’s a product or service or a sale. It is also used to deliver information that can be of value to the recipient.

Creating an email list to send to is not that difficult to do. All you have to do is request visitors to sign up for your newsletter or in order to get something for free. Doing so allows you to send them messages that they will accept.

·         Affiliate marketing – If you don’t have anything to promote but still would like to do marketing online then this is a good strategy to follow. In this type of marketing you basically market other people’s products or services.

Think of it as selling with a commission. Depending on the agreement you either get a fixed amount in return for every sale or lead or you get a commission for everything you do.

The good thing is that you’re not limited to just one thing. Because there are a variety of products and services being offered online you can affiliate with any number of them and market them at the same time.

Nowadays when people want to share something to everyone else they turn to blogging. It’s a way for you to really reach a lot of people in a short span of time. I should know; I’m blogging too.

I have probably written a ton of content and then it occurred to me – how the heck am I going to get people to read what’s on my blog. I mean, think about it for one second – even if I have all this articles how are you going to know that my blog even exist.

Therein lies the conundrum of all bloggers: what to do in order to in order for their blogs to be read. The answer to that is marketing your blog. It’s pretty much the same as you would market anything just that you’re going to be marketing online blog instead.

So I looked around for information and seeing as it’s all scattered all over I thought: why not share this information with you guys. After all, it’s not like the you need to pay in order to have the information.

You might think this is odd that I would share such information to you who will soon be my competition. It’s not such a bad thing. After all, healthy competition always makes things that much better. At the same time, it keeps everyone from becoming too complacent so in that regard I don’t mind it.

So where do you start?

Start with having targeted content in your blog. Simply put don’t do the shotgun approach when it comes to your blog content. There’s another term for that as well. I believe it’s ‘spray and pray you hit something’ tactic.

That’s where you just put forth a lot of content and hope it will get the interest of any reader out there. It’s a well-used tactic that can cost you a lot in terms of time and effort with nothing much to show for it.

How?

Well, imagine the ‘spray and pray’ tactic I mentioned. This was the strategy used during the Vietnam conflict wherein the soldiers would simply pump out as many bullets as they could fire from their rifles hoping to hit an enemy – even just one.

They do hit one but at what cost. I don’t know statistics but I assume it took a lot of bullets just to hit that one enemy soldier. Use that tactic in your marketing online blog strategy and it’s going to be like pumping out dozens of articles in the hope of getting one reader to read it.

Is it worth your time and effort?

If you’re a masochist.

I mean, if you like to write a lot of articles per day and make it hard for yourself just so you can get that one generic reader then by all means go for it.

If it were me I wouldn’t give myself that much aggravation. You can do a lot more instead of using up all your time with just writing. You could spend it marketing online blog instead.

So what do you do?

Instead of looking for any reader be more specific in your approach. Be a sniper instead.

Make your content interesting a set demographic. Like this article for example. I’m hoping bloggers who want to know what it takes to get their blogs going and marketed would read it. That’s my target and I tried to make my content reflect that.

Did it work?

There’s more to it than just this of course. But, I’m not about to give them to you in just one go. That would be boring. Besides, I love a good conversation.

I’m going to write more about this so stay tuned.

Tips To Starting Your Own Blog

Blogging is all about sharing yourself and whatever you feel like it to the rest of the world – or at least the rest of the world that’s online. This means that if you start your own marketing online blog you will be sharing your knowledge about that topic to everyone who’s interested. At least that’s the theory.

Of course now your obvious question is: how do I start blogging?

Of course it is and let me share some tips on how you can get started on blogging your heart away (well not literally).

1. OK, what do you like? Dogs? Hot rods? Cameras? What?

I’m not asking because I want to know your profile for a blind date. I’m asking in order to help you determine for yourself what your passion is.

Why am I doing that?

Because people often blog based on what their passions are. This means that for people who love horses they will blog about horses. For those who love dogs it will be about dogs. You get the picture.

The reason many people start blogging this way is because it’s easier to write and post about stuff that you’re passionate about.

It’s like food; it’s easier to eat and swallow food that you like versus food that you don’t like. Same is true when creating blog posts. You tend to be able to write easier and with more sincerity when you write about something you like versus something that gives you nose bleeds and a potential aneurysm.

2. Now that you know what your passion is all about it’s time to figure out who your intended audience will be. Who will be reading your marketing online blog?

But wait; shouldn’t my intended audience be everyone out there?

In a perfect world it would be nice if everyone reads your blog. But we don’t live in a utopia. As we all know, those that don’t have the same passion as you won’t read your posts.

Don’t be surprised. Let me ask you: if you didn’t care much about fast cars and came across a fast car blog would you even stop and look? In all likelihood, you probably will not.

The same is true with your intended audience. Much as it would be nice to get all of them, you won’t. That’s why your best bet is to target those that have the same passion as yours. This means that if you like dogs then plan on getting dog lovers to read your blog.

3. With your passion and target audience chosen how do you want to do your marketing online blog? Basically, it’s a question of how you will be helping out your target audience.

Will your blog be a ‘how to guide’ wherein you show people how to do things. So if you’re into dogs then it will be a ‘how to guide’ on caring for certain types of dogs.

Will you be sharing the latest in dog news, breeds and care? It’s like a ‘how to guide’ but more on trends and general information.

These three tips are just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended). There’s more tips and strategies out there. It’s not that hard to find if you are diligent enough.

If you want all the information in just one site then check this one out. It will really help you blog your way to the top.
